BikeBoost York

BikeBoost is currently recruiting participants at Aviva in York and at the Marriott Hotel and Holiday Inn on Tadcaster Road. Bikeboost will lend bicycles and accessories to employees at participating workplaces for 4 weeks. We also ensure access to urban cycle coaching so you can ride your bike safely on the road. If you love the bike we've leant you, this will be available at the end of the scheme at a discounted price.

In autumn 2010 we recruited 37 participants from York Science Park, and 54 from City of York Council. 75% of these participants indicated they will continue cycling to work regularly.

 The York Cycle Challenge

The York Cycle Challenge is a fun, free competition to encourage people working or living in York to remember the joys and benefits of riding a bike. It's all about participation - which organisation or department can get the most members of staff cycling? The challenge runs from March 14th to April 3rd and there are lots of individual and team prizes to be won. For more details visit www.yorkcyclechallenge.org.uk or contact the Cycle Challenge Coordinator Ciaran Meyers via ciaran.meyers@ctc.org.uk.

All BikeBoost participants can also register for the York Cycle Challenge to enter competitions and pit themselves against fellow cyclists across the City.

 Chester Challenge -ready to go!

Regular and budding cyclists in Chester are preparing themselves for a citywide challenge in the coming two weeks. Participants are invited to ride to work once between 18th-31st October, and if they log the journey online, they'll gain a free gift!

We are also running a series of leagues for different sized workplaces to pitch against each other for the chance of winning a pool bike for their offices.

So, lets wish our Chester BikeBoosters the best of luck and hope for good weather to get that mileage up!

Giving British Volleyball a (Bike) Boost

BikeBoost are delighted to be supporting the Great British Women's Volleyball team in their bid to make it to the London 2012 Olympic games. The GB Women's team have borrowed BikeBoost cycles to take part in a sponsored cycle ride to London.

With only two years to go before London 2012, the GB Women’s Volleyball team have received a severe blow to their Olympic prospects. Due to insufficient funds, their winter training programme (from August 2010 to May 2011) will be compromised and only a limited competitive programme will take place next summer.

In order to raise money to keep the team training over the winter and to build on their current performance, the team will undertake a 320-mile bike ride from their training base in Sheffield to the Earls Court Arena, the Olympic Volleyball venue, in London.

The event will be launched in Sheffield City Centre on July 23 2010 and finish on July 27, exactly two years to the day before the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Games. On borrowed bicycles, the riders will complete distances of up to 100 miles a day, stopping along the way in Nottingham, Loughborough, Wolverhampton, Kidderminster, Oxford and Reading to raise awareness of their plight and galvanise potential support.
